In loving memory of the greatest Dad ever, I wanted to share something I wrote back in Decmeber.

Papa was a hero to us all. He was certainly a hero to me. There was a way about him that brought a smile to people’s faces. His own smile was contagious and he laughed with his whole being. He was happy even when there wasn’t much to be happy about. He taught me to be positive. His optimism was a rarity in this world. I can’t think of a time when he was ever angry with me. In my whole life, he may have rasied his voice once. Disappointing him was enough to make me never make the same mistake twice. I always wanted to make him proud. He let everyone know just how very proud he was of us each day. Even the most mundane task received a compliment or a glowing review. He was appreciative of a simple touch on the shoulder. His bright blue eyes sparkled with praise. He supported our imaginations and never shot down our dreams no matter how big or small. His generosity never ceased. From nickles and dimes to twenty dollars bills, he gave you what he had in his pocket. Even when you tried to politely decline, he insisted and said “you may not need it but I’m sure it would be nice to have.” This man had a heart of gold, bigger than his ever expanding belly. His heart was so big he had enough room in it for an 8^th child after his seven had grown. To be his daughter is truly a special blessing. The ongoing support and unconditional love he gave me was more than I could ever have hoped for in my life. He taught me to love people and to accept people of all kinds. So many of you here today have emulated his characteristics in one way or another but without a doubt we may never meet another man with such devotion, loyalty, patience, and kindness.

Papa we LOVE you and hope you know how much you touched our lives. I will miss you every day but the wonderful memories you’ve given us will certainly bring many smiles along the way.
